Music Gen AI Startups

Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment, as part of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), have filed lawsuits against AI music generation startups Udio and Suno. They allege the companies illegally trained their AI models on copyrighted material, seeking up to $150,000 per infringed work. The RIAA claims the startups' outputs mimic specific artists and songs, admitting to using copyrighted material. Notably, Suno recently raised $125M, while Udio secured $10M.

Apple is reportedly in talks with Meta to integrate the social media giant’s generative AI models into Apple Intelligence, potentially ending their rivalry. Besides Meta, Apple is also exploring partnerships with Perplexity and Anthropic to join OpenAI in its new AI system. The deal would allow these AI partners to offer premium subscriptions through Apple devices, with Apple taking a revenue cut.

OpenAI

OpenAI has acquired Multi, a startup developing an enterprise-focused, screen-sharing platform. This acquisition, mainly an acqui-hire, will see most of Multi’s team joining OpenAI. Multi's platform enables remote teams to work together via video chats and screen sharing. This move aligns with OpenAI’s strategy of bolstering its enterprise solutions, following the recent acquisition of Rockset and partnerships with firms like PwC.
