OpenAI’s ChatGPT macOS app
OpenAI has launched its ChatGPT desktop app for all macOS users, allowing quick access via the keyboard shortcut Option + Space. This integration follows its earlier announcement at Apple’s WWDC 2024. The macOS app lets users interact with ChatGPT, upload files, and review past conversations. This is part of a broader collaboration that includes future integrations with iPhones and iPads. Nevertheless, OpenAI has delayed the release of its advanced Voice Mode features sighting incomplete launch readiness.
Smashing App
Otis Chandler, Goodreads' co-founder, launched Smashing, an AI and community-powered content recommendation app, now in invite-only beta. Smashing aims to connect users to interests by surfacing valuable content, including news, blogs, social media, and podcasts. Users can vote on content, with AI offering summaries and identifying interests. The platform, backed by $3.4 million in seed funding, emphasises driving traffic to original publishers.
Reddit announced an update to its Robots Exclusion Protocol (robots.txt file) to prevent AI companies from scraping its site to train models without acknowledging the source. The update will include rate-limiting and blocking unknown bots and crawlers. This change is aimed at deterring unauthorised AI training while maintaining access for good faith actors and companies with agreements, like Google.
